About John Zhao

A native New Yorker and technologist, John Zhao has been involved not only in the software industry since the 1990s but also graduated Summa Cum Laude with his Electrical Engineering degree from Cooper Union.

John has been with Bloomberg LP in their Engineering department since 2006, most recently as a group manager.

Bloomberg LP 2006 - Present

Software Engineering Group Manager

At Bloomberg, John built and architectured from the ground up, the core ticketing and communication system that powers all business units within the firm. Built the business model and grew the development team to 12. Integrated NLP, ticket distribution technology, and built the product out on a JS/C++/SQL stack within the Bloomberg Terminal.

He was soon thereafter promoted to lead several development teams within the Internal Technology Engineering department. Responsible for the Marketing team, whose portfolio included an e-mail targeting and campaign system, the Bloomberg Terminal I-Panel (advertisement) framework, and other event management related systems.

John also ran the hiring committee for the Internal Technology Engineering department, which under his leadership filled the most headcount out of any previous years.

John brings a unique balance of technology skills and leadership/team-building skills. Under his leadership, his group saw attrition fall to the lowest in years. He is a born leader and gifted technologist.

Software Engineer / Technology Solutions Consultant

Con Edison Meter Shop Refurbishment & Retirement Division.

Implemented a Windows-based user interface against the legacy mainframe backbone to assist and amend in the daily workflows of the labor staff.

Utilized Win32 Forms and UX design to create multiple processes around efficiency and reducing manual interactions with the mainframe.

Licensed and extended the contract in 2005 to the Natural Gas division at Con Edison.
